Silicone Oil – Dimethicone
Dimethicone (Silicone Oil)
Dimethicone is a type of silicone oil that is particularly non-toxic and safe to use. It is commonly used in beauty products. Its safety and functionality are the reasons live4art has chosen this form of silicone oil for creating cells in fluid / pouring art.
Silicone oils come in different viscosity. At live4art we undertook extensive experiments with different viscosities, and whilst anything from 300cSt up created good cells, we found that 1000cSt created the most consistently positive results and allowed for some variation in paint/ pouring medium thickness. Further experimentation showed that 12500cSt helped to create ‘super cells’, great for when you want bigger cells that hold their shape. We also tested oils from different manufacturers to find the best quality product to suit the purpose.
Doing pouring art is an exciting experience, which can never be entirely controlled (as many of us have found out from firsthand experience!). We are therefore creating resources on this website to help you along the way. As a special free gift to those that purchase one of our silicon oil products, we have developed an E-Guide Using Silicone Oil to create beautiful cells in fluid art – Top 10 Tips, available for download after you have completed your purchase. These 10 tips, along with our quality product, will help you create optimum cells in your art work.
